iPhone 4 Antenna Issues Lead to Charles E. Schumer Letter to Jobs

Posted on 16 July 2010 by Nancy

iPhone 4 Antenna Issues Lead to Charles E. Schumer Letter to Jobs: The iPhone 4 antenna issues are kinda horrifying to those users who never expected these problems with the Apple product. Apple, thus is going to reveal information about the iPhone 4 in today’s press conference. As the users are upset with the iPhone 4 reception issues, the US senator, Charles E. Schumer did write a letter to Steve Jobs.

The letter from Charles E. Schumer to Steve Jobs mentions to have a clear picture of what exactly is the problem with the iPhone 4 and to provide a free fix for it. Apple is going to reveal more information on the iPhone 4 in today’s press conference and lets wait and watch what Apple has got to say about its highest selling iPhone 4. We will be blogging live on the Apple press release, till then check out the letter from Charles E. Schumer to Steve Jobs.

July 15, 2010

Dear Mr. Jobs,

I write to express concern regarding the reception problem with the Apple iPhone 4. While I commend Apple’s innovative approach to mobile technology and appreciate its service to millions of iPhone users nationwide, I believe it is incumbent upon Apple to address this flaw in a transparent manner. According to Consumer Reports’ review, released Monday on its website, the iPhone 4’s signal-strength problem is a hardwire glitch triggered by gripping the device in a particular manner. This finding, according to Consumer Reports, “call[s] into question” Apple’s recent claim that the problem is “largely an optical illusion caused by faulty software.” Consumer Reports declined to recommend the iPhone 4 because of this hardware design flaw.

Given the discrepancy between Consumer Reports’ explanation of the reception problem and the explanation provided by Apple in its July 2 letter to customers, I am concerned that the nearly two million purchasers of the iPhone 4 may not have complete information about the quality of the product they have purchased. The burden for consumers caused by this glitch, combined with the confusion over its cause and how it will be fixed, has the potential to undermine the many benefits of this innovative device. To address this concern, I ask that Apple provide iPhone 4 customers with a clearly written explanation of the cause of the reception problem and make a public commitment to remedy it free-of-charge. The solutions offered to date by Apple for dealing with the so-called “death grip” malfunction-such as holding the device differently, or buying a cover for it-seem to be insufficient. These proposed solutions would unfairly place the burden on consumers for resolving a problem they were not aware of when they purchased their phones.

I also encourage Apple to keep its promise to provide free software updates so that bars displayed accurately reflect signal strength; I further urge Apple to issue a written explanation of the formula it uses to calculate bar strength, so that consumers can once again trust the product that they have invested in.

I look forward to Apple’s swift action on this matter, and once again laud Apple for its innovative efforts and service to millions of Americans.

Sincerely,

Charles E. Schumer

Posted on 16 July 2010 by Brian

As the iPhone 4 from Apple has been reported with the hardware problems and there isn’t any fix from Apple, it directly leads to a press conference from Apple. We expect that the Apple would come up with a solution for the iPhone 4 reception issue in the press conference but there could be few other outcomes from this Apple press conference.

The outcomes from Apple press conference could be surprising but to break the suspense and out of curiosity, we listed out top 3 predictions that could occur at the Apple press conference.

The first outcome from Apple could be that there isn’t any antenna issue and it would be solve with the next OS update from Apple which would cure up the reception problem. As Apple said it earlier, it would repeat the same thing in today’s press conference.

The second outcome could be that Apple would provide free iPhone 4 bumpers to the users who are facing the iPhone reception issues. The free bumpers would be sent to the users who complain about the iPhone 4 antenna issue.

The third outcome could be the iPhone 4 recall. Apple may recall its iPhone 4 and promise to send it back once reception issue is resolved.

We expect the above outcomes but Apple would be taking over the press conference from 10AM PDT today and don’t you guys move away from here as we are blogging live on the Apple press conference.
